In this presentation attendees will learn the importance of observing body language, use their own body language in a manner that prevents and alleviates fear, anxiety, and stress and how to practically apply distraction techniques.

Description: Learn what cooperative care means & how we can teach consent behaviours & the importance of choice when teaching patients to participate in their own veterinary care. Consent behaviours discussed will include stationing & chin rest, the benefits of using predictor cues for cooperative veterinary care training and how to transfer this type of training to veterinary procedures.

Description:
Attendees will spend time with RVTs/Trainers, a variety of live dogs and one cat on the following behaviours & concepts: targeting & stationing (nose/paw), chin rest, predictor cues, desensitizing & couter-conditioning to equipment. 

The webinars will be recorded & available for streaming until May 22, 2024. Both lectures and lab are pending AbVMA & CVBC-approval for 1.5 CE credits each. 


Speaker Biography

Jessica graduated from the NAIT Animal Health Technology program in 2010. In addition to being a Registered Veterinary Technologist, Jessica is a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Behaviour. She is also a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner & Fear Free Certified veterinary professional, trainer & speaker. She serves on the Examination & Credentials Approval Committee for the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians & is the recipient of the 2020 ABVMA Veterinary Technologist of the Year Award.
